Value addition is vital for the sustainability of Kenya’s gemstone sector and the prosperity of its miners. Recognizing the knowledge gap among artisanal and small-scale (ASM) gemstone miners, AWEIK has stepped in to empower them through targeted training programs designed to address these challenges.

The program provides knowledge of techniques and technologies to reduce waste, enhance product quality, and align with international standards. It also covers key areas such as packaging, pricing, marketing, gemstone mining, export compliance, faceting, cabbing, and tumbling.

By equipping miners with these skills, AWEIK enables them to better understand the gemstone market, secure higher returns, and position their products competitively. This initiative not only improves livelihoods but also fosters pride and confidence in their craft, driving growth and sustainability in the gemstone sector.
