GFI Project: Enhancing Revenue Collection and Reducing Illicit Financial Flows in Kenya’s Mining Sector

This project aims to address governance challenges, promote sustainable development in Kenya’s mining sector and create an enabling environment for the sector to thrive, enforcing laws and regulations, and supporting artisanal and small-scale miners (ASM) to achieve their full potential. Key activities have included joint consultative meetings on beneficial ownership, implementation of a journalists’ fellowship program to enhance investigative reporting on illicit financial flows (IFFs), and research on supply chain challenges in rare earth minerals. Additionally, the project supports engagement of stakeholders through regional and international dialogues advocating for equitable mineral resource governance, policy reforms, gender-responsive practices, and community empowerment in the mining sector.
